Lift Care & Maintenance During the Winter Season❄️

Lifts are the workhorse in transporting people and goods within your organisation. The winter months can affect them due to changes in temperature, which is why winter lift maintenance is vital when it comes to your lifts to keep them working efficiently. There are a few extra measures you can make to limit your lift having any disruption during the winter months.

Many people don’t know that winter preparation for lifts is extremely important. The mechanical parts of the lift rails can be adversely affected due to the cold and chill of the winter season. The cold and dry air may affect the lubrication on the guide rails of the lift and make them stiffen. The lack of lubricant on the guide rails may affect the efficiency of your lift, and the overall performance. By applying lubricant this will reduce the friction between the guid rails and the lift while in operation.

Keeping your lift temperatures consistent is a key factor to maintain your lift in the winter months, as if there is a drastic change in temperature from inside the lift to the shaft then condensation can build up. This moisture can then find its way to electrical components and cause component failure and the shutting down of the lift, resulting in a disruption to productivity within your organisation. On top of this the oil could dry and wiring get damaged just to name a few more issues which can arise if temperatures are not controlled correctly. Ideally your lift hydraulics should be kept between 15°C – 20°C. One way to achieve making sure the temperature is correct would be installing a motor room heater, which are used to maintain the temperature. The benefits of using a motor room heater include reduced wear and tear, energy savings, improved safety, and compliance of regulations.

Regular maintenance of your lift is the key. If you require a well-established company to keep your lift maintained, then look no future. Celebrating 20 years of Business!

Ascendant Lifts Ltd are proud to announce we are celebrating 20 years of business this week.

Ascendant was incorporated in November 2003 under the successful leadership of the ‘Brown’ family. The company originated from Stockport and quickly became a very competitive business across the Northwest of England. Winning numerous large prestigious contracts, they went from strength to strength and were able to operate in further areas, giving them UK coverage.

In January 2021 the company was acquired by Ken Chappell who already owned & managed other successful Lift businesses. Since the acquisition we have continued to grow as a business and have our Head office in the Northeast of England with further branches serving the rest of the UK.

This week our Head Office have kicked off the celebrations in style. A light lunch was provided for all staff, along with a delicious piece of celebrations cake.  To mark the occasion each member of staff were presented with a commemorative glass tankard stamped with the company’s logo to remember this significant milestone.  Watch for next week’s photo shots when we again celebrate with our staff at our Northwest branch. As they say you can never have enough cake! 🍰

If you have any lifts which require servicing or repairs and want to deal with a well-established successful business, look no further. We do FREE quotes and surveys for all our services. Another Lift Modernisation Win

Here at Ascendant Lifts, we would like to share a recent lift modernisation project win in Grantham for a large multinational care provider.

This new win and project added to an already bulging order book which further demonstrates Ascendant Lifts commitment to client satisfaction.

Due to the age of the equipment on site the customer was getting extremely concerned about down time of the lift should any of the obsolete parts fail as this was in a care environment it was critical, they were not left without their lift for an extended period.

Rather than waiting for the inevitable to happen along with the obvious inconvenience to the residents of the home our client was proactive and scheduled upgrade works in when it suited the care home.

After going through a competitive tender process Ascendant Lifts scored high and won the upgrade works, not just on price but our ability to demonstrate sound health and safety management coupled with quality control and management systems throughout the business.

Utilising a UK manufactured control system with a number of benefits including built in energy saving capability we removed the old equipment and installed the new fully open protocol system with the minimum of fuss.

At the time of writing this news story I’m happy to share the news that we are in the finishing stages of the project, and it will be successfully handed back to our client ahead of schedule and within budget.

We can often get your lift fully modernised with a new interior and all components within a 4 week period depending on specifications.

We only supply and fit open protocol parts to any lift repairs or modernisations. This gives the our clients flexibility on their lifts but also peace of mind on future works.

We believe by having the right company and right engineers as your service provider, then you can cut down on call-outs, downtime and ultimately cost.

If you have any lifts which require modernisation, come get a FREE quote and survey. Get in touch via our email head.office@ascendantlifts.co.uk or call us on 0800 599 9177. For more information on our company visit our website at www.ascendantlifts.co.uk

Celebrating a great appointment!

This week we welcome Liam our new trainee Lift Engineer. Liam comes from a strong RAF background where he has gained vast knowledge and skills that we know can be transferrable to the lift industry. As Ascendant are members of the Armed Forces Covenant (AFC) we wanted to be able to give something back to people who have protected and fought for our country.  The aim of the covenant is to ensure that service personnel, their dependants and veterans are not disadvantaged in the provision of goods and services, compared with the rest of the population.

Our Managing Director Suzanne Lisle states, ‘’as an employer we understand it can often be difficult to find the perfect candidate and some industries are struggling to ‘fill’ a significant skills gap. One solution we have looked at is to consider recruiting ex-military personnel who have a breadth of aptitude, skills and training which are transferrable and could add real value to our business. We have previously found that Ex-forces candidates have a strong work ethic. Bringing values and ethics taught from their military training to the commercial workplace. As well as a strong work ethic and a focused attitude, employers have noted that ex-military workers are dedicated as well fully engaged with their job roles.’’

As Liam embarks on his new career at Ascendant Lifts, he will receive on the job practical experience through the guidance of his mentor which will prepare him for enrolment onto his NVQ 3 in Lift engineering Maintenance. We are excited for Liam’s future here at Ascendant and wish him a very long and successful career.

My day out with an Engineer

“I think I’ll stick to selling contracts!”

This week I went out observing a lift engineer for the day, to say it was an experience would be an understatement. Starting the new role of Service Sales Manager, I have found going out for the day extremely beneficial to see things from a different perspective.

I now know a lift engineer is so much more than just an engineer. For one they are the face of the company. From them having to get from job to job in accordingly time while providing a great service. They constantly engage with site staff signing in and out, completing their logbooks, doing risk assessments, while making sure everything is safe and operational. Then moving onto the next job!

It is fair to say I did not realise how intense the job role was. “I think I’ll stick to selling contracts.”

“Keep up the cracking work!”

Celebrating some tremendous feedback from one of our key account customers making all the hard work put in from our staff at Ascendant worth it.

“Firstly, I would like to commend all the engineers that work on our lifts. We are fully aware that our stock at times can be quite challenging, and I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to be working very hard on one lift, only to be called to another as an emergency. Given these frustrations, your engineers continue to represent the Ascendant brand perfectly. They are very polite to our staff and residents, something that can be quite tricky seeing as many times. If we can pass this praise onto the engineers in question that would be great, I know from experience that receiving praise can really make a difference in some cases. “Keep up the cracking work!”
